Brann are close to an agreement for the highly-rated teenager Malte Fismen from Åsane. TV 2 reports that the 16-year-old midfielder has made a key decision and could sign for Brann as early as today.

The club has been waiting for a response from the player in recent days. He also visited Molde, who had a bid accepted alongside Brann. But Fismen has now chosen to stay in Bergen. "Overfor Bergensavisen bekrefter han at han blir i Åsane ut sesongen," the talent said. A transfer to Brann will not be completed until after the season, however, as the window is about to close. He will not play for Brann this autumn regardless.

Why did Fismen choose Brann?

Malte Fismen has attracted interest from several clubs this summer. Italian side Como made a bid that was rejected, and Bodø/Glimt as well as Inter have also been monitoring him. Åsane demanded a transfer fee that secured them a larger guaranteed amount. A potential purchase will cost Brann a double-digit million kroner figure in a total package.

For Brann, who sit fifth in the Eliteserien with 26 points, this is about long-term building. The team has scored 36 goals and conceded 27 in 18 matches. They are unbeaten in their last three games, with recent form DDW, and play next against Lillestrøm at home. You can check their position on our standings page.

How does he fit into the squad?

Brann's manager is currently dealing with several absences on the injury list. Eggert Aron Guðmundsson, Jonas Torsvik, Sakarias Opsahl and Sævar Atli Magnússon are all sidelined. Bringing in a young talent like Fismen can inject new blood into the midfield in the long term. He will first become part of the club from the winter of 2027.

This mirrors a strategy of recruiting local talent. Brann are 18 points behind league leaders Bodø/Glimt, so the focus is also on building for the future. See the full current squad list.

What happens with the transfer now?

According to TV 2, it is still current that Fismen could sign for Brann during the day. The agreement will be in place, but the formal transfer cannot be completed before the transfer window closes. This means the player will finish the 2026 season with Åsane in the OBOS-ligaen before potentially moving.

This type of deal, where a player signs now for a later move, is not uncommon. It gives Brann security on the player and gives Fismen peace to focus on the rest of the season with his current club. For Åsane, they secure a significant transfer fee.

Brann's next match is against Lillestrøm at home on September 5th, an important game in the battle for top positions. You can follow all upcoming matches on our fixtures page. The team is coming from a 0-0 away draw against Sandefjord and will aim for a win in front of their own fans.
