Brann are through to the third qualifying round in the league after beating Universitatea Cluj 3–1 at Brann Stadion. Niklas Castro was the hero with two goals as the Bergen team won 5–3 on aggregate.
How did the match go?
Brann got the start they dreamed of when Castro sent the hosts into the lead after eight minutes. The striker met De Roeves' pass with an elegant half-volley that gave Brann Stadion a boost. The home team had good control in the first half, but were punished on a counter-attack when Jovo Lukic equalized to 1–1 after 26 minutes.
Castro was again in focus
Just before the break, Brann came back. Castro scored from the left, Cluj goalkeeper misjudged the pass, and Ulrik Mathisen headed in 2–1 to a huge celebration at Brann Stadion. After the break, it was again about Castro. The striker picked up the ball on Cluj's half, challenged through the middle, and scored 3–1 from distance. The goalkeeper got a hand on the finish, but couldn't prevent the goal.
Horneland was pleased
Brann also had opportunities to increase the lead further in the final stages, but three goals were more than enough. Brann coach Eirik Horneland thought Brann were the best team over the two matches and that the advancement was fully deserved.
