Sportsklubben Brann are Norwegian Cup champions after defeating Aalesund 3-1 in the final at Ullevaal Stadium on Sunday. The victory, delivered by goals from Lauren Davidson, Amalie Eikeland, and Brenna Lovera, marks the club's first triumph in the competition since 2022. The match was covered by NRK Sport.

Aalesund, playing in their first-ever cup final, took a surprising lead after just six minutes. Laura Gashi delivered a precise pass that Katarina Dybvik Sunde finished. Brann's response was swift. In the 14th minute, Lauren Davidson broke through the Aalesund defence alone to equalise at 1-1. Minutes later, Amalie Eikeland put Brann ahead 2-1 with another attacking move.

The match's controversial moment came when Davidson was fouled inside the penalty area, leading the referee to point to the spot. Brenna Lovera converted the penalty for the final 3-1 scoreline. Aalesund coach Martin Lindmark described the penalty situation as 'light' and said he hadn't seen the incident again. Expert Carl-Erik Torp felt the VAR and referee handling was poor, but added: "Det var aldri noko tvil, men Aalesund gav eit godt forsøk" (There was never any doubt, but Aalesund gave a good try).

The Scottish forward was decisive with both a goal and an assist. She expressed great satisfaction after the win. "Eg er fornøgd. Eg er alltid fornøgd når eg bidrar til laget med mål og målgivande. Eg føler laget mitt gjer det enkelt for meg," said Davidson. She highlighted that this was her first cup win after two years at the club. The victory comes as part of a remarkable season for Brann, who remain undefeated in both the cup and the Toppserien this year.

The cup joy arrives amidst a somewhat inconsistent league campaign for Brann. As of 7 September 2026, the team sits 7th in Eliteserien with 26 points from 19 games. They have eight wins, two draws, and nine losses. The team's goal statistics show 37 scored and 29 conceded, giving them a +8 goal difference. They currently trail league leaders Bodø/Glimt by 21 points.

The last league match before the final was a 1-2 loss to Lillestrøm on 5 September. This gives a recent form over two matches of zero wins, one draw, and one loss. The team's standings show a need for consistency to climb the table.

Attention must now turn back to league play. Brann's next task is an away match against Start, who sit bottom in 16th place, on Saturday 13 September. It will be a key opportunity for Brann to reverse the negative trend in the league and build on the cup momentum.
