Brann manager Eirik Horneland admits his team needed a major wake-up call after a string of poor performances. The win over Bodø/Glimt on Sunday provided a vital boost for a side sitting seventh in the Eliteserien.

The short version: - Brann beat Bodø/Glimt with goals from Eggert Aron Gudmundsson and Kristall Mani Ingason. - The victory followed a defeat to Start and a poor run of form. - Manager Horneland describes a "toxic mood" and says the team had fallen asleep.

  • We have been really weak the last few weeks. We have fallen asleep, there has been a dead atmosphere, we haven't managed to bring out our best, says Horneland.

He points to growing dissatisfaction around the club due to the weak results. Many are unhappy with a lack of sporting investment, and the pressure has also hit daily leader Christian Kalvenes and sporting director Per-Ove Ludvigsen. The win against Glimt, where goalkeeper Simen Vidtun Nilsen made several key saves, was an important turning point.

  • We had to shake things up a bit. It's not about individuals. Too many people have fallen asleep. As a group, we have fallen asleep. We needed to get new excitement into the dressing room, says Horneland.

Captain Fredrik Pallesen Knudsen stresses that the players must now focus on effort. He says the last few weeks have been difficult and that the group focused too much externally. "If people start thinking about consequences, they lose self-confidence," he added. With the win in their back pocket, the team is now on a two-game winning streak, after a run that previously showed two losses and a draw.

The next task is a top-of-the-table clash against league leaders Viking at Brann Stadion. Viking leads the league with an advantage over Brann. In the last meeting, Brann lost away. With players like Kjartan Mar Kjartansson and Sakarias Opsahl on the injury list, and top scorer Noah Jean Holm with goals this season, it will be a tough challenge. The team's recent results also include a win over PAOK, but the focus is now entirely on the Eliteserien. With time until the next match, Horneland and his players have time to build on the energy from the win against Glimt.
