Brann have opened negotiations with Jonas Torsvik over a new contract. The 21-year-old player has received an offer from the club but has yet to sign the new deal. Torsvik's current contract with Sportsklubben Brann expires in 115 days.

Jonas Torsvik is one of the young players Brann want to build their future with. The fact he has now received an offer shows the club believes in his development. The negotiations come as Brann sit in seventh place in the Eliteserien with 26 points from 19 games. They have scored 37 goals and conceded 29, giving them a positive goal difference of eight. The team, however, trails league leaders Bodø/Glimt by a significant 21 points.

Torsvik is currently part of an injured squad. He is on the injuries list alongside Sakarias Opsahl and Neraysho Kasanwirjo. This is a challenge for manager Eirik Horneland, especially with the important away match against Start on September 13th.

The club's last result was a 1-2 defeat to Lillestrøm last weekend. This was Brann's second consecutive loss, and they have only won one of their last five matches. Their recent form shows a pattern of two losses, two draws, and one win. Such a points return is a cause for concern when the aim is to compete at the top of the table.

To turn the trend around, Brann must find more stability. The team's position in the standings reflects a season of ups and downs. They have eight wins, two draws, and nine losses so far. There is clearly room for improvement, especially defensively, to ensure a strong finish to the season.

For Jonas Torsvik personally, this is a significant career decision. Signing a new deal with Brann would provide security and the opportunity to continue his development in a familiar environment. He has commented on the situation himself, stating he is "sikkert frustrert" (certainly frustrated) at not being able to contribute due to injury while talks are ongoing.

Brann's desire to keep him shows that they see him as part of their future plans. It is an acknowledgment of the work he has put in since joining the club. For a young player, continuity is often the key to breaking through at a higher level.

Securing key players on new contracts is a central part of the club's long-term strategy. Locking Torsvik down would remove uncertainty about his presence in the squad. This gives the coaching staff a better foundation for planning both training and tactics for the remainder of the season and beyond.

With several players out injured, it is extra important to have clarity on which players are available long-term. A confirmed signature from Torsvik would therefore be a positive signal within the organization. The next step is the away match against Start, who sit bottom of the table, where Brann will be hunting for three important points. The game is played on Saturday, September 13th.
