Kristall Máni Ingason has been suspended for two matches. The Norwegian Football Federation's disciplinary committee has handed the Brann midfielder a ban following his red card against Bodø/Glimt last month.
It happened in a match Brann won 2-1. Ingason had scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 57th minute, but saw red roughly ten minutes later. After a VAR review, an initial yellow card was upgraded to red for a challenge on Patrick Berg. Brann currently sit seventh in the Eliteserien with 29 points and face league leaders Viking at home next.
Losing a key player
The suspension comes at a key time. Brann will be without a key midfielder for the fixtures against Viking and Vålerenga, two matches that could be decisive for their final league position. Ingason is currently away on international duty with Iceland.
After the Glimt match, a verbal spat also erupted between the coaches. Assistant coach Erik Huseklepp asked Kjetil Knutsen if he really had to be so childish.
- Childish? It's unbelievable you can think that, Knutsen replied., That's what's insane.
Knutsen believed the red card was clear., He stamps quite high on his foot, he said., So it could have been a bad one.
Brann's squad must now adapt without Ingason. The team is coming off a 2-1 loss to Start and has won only two of its last five matches. To keep pace at the top, they need every point they can get. Check the updated standings to follow the race.
